This is a remote position.
Our client is an industry-leading, independent acoustic consultancy, delivering acoustic consulting and sound insulation testing services to clients throughout the UK. They are currently looking for a Technical Sales Engineer to join their team and help drive continued growth.The ideal candidate will have strong technical capability, with a degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics, Building Services, or a related discipline. You need to be sales-driven, a strong relationship builder, with experience in B2B client management and sales.
What You’ll be Doing
Technical Sales & Client Support
- Act as the first point of contact for inbound technical sales enquiries, responding promptly and professionally.
- Understand client requirements through active listening, needs analysis, and technical discussion, and recommend appropriate services and products.
- Provide expert technical support throughout the sales process, offering insights into product performance, testing methodologies, and acoustic solutions.
Quotation, Specification & Proposal Management
- Prepare accurate, technically robust quotations and specifications for acoustic panelling products, consultancy services, and testing/design work.
- Develop high-quality sales proposals, tender submissions, and supporting documentation that clearly communicate scope, value, and technical compliance.
- Liaise with internal technical and design teams to ensure all proposals are viable, costed appropriately, and technically sound.
Business Development & Growth Initiatives
- Support proactive business development through follow-up of inbound leads, participation in targeted outreach campaigns, and engagement with prospective clients.
- Identify and qualify new opportunities within existing accounts and across target sectors.
- Collaborate with marketing and senior leadership to refine sales strategies and contribute to pipeline growth.
Account Management & Relationship Building
- Build and maintain strong, professional client relationships based on trust, technical credibility, and timely delivery.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, articulating the benefits of proposed acoustic solutions and supporting decision-making.
- Coordinate regular follow-up and communication to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business.
Financial Administration & Sales Support
- Support financial administration related to sales, including basic bookkeeping, invoicing, and payment recording.
- Track outstanding invoices and follow up with clients to chase payments in a professional and timely manner.
- Liaise with internal teams and external accountants to ensure billing and financial records are accurate and up to date.
- Provide cover for other sales team members during periods of annual leave, including managing enquiries, emails, and associated admin tasks to maintain continuity of service.
Requirements
Qualifications & Technical Background
- Degree-qualified in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics, Building Services, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification in acoustics or noise & vibration and/or professional membership (e.g. IOA) is desirable but not essential.
Technical Knowledge
- Solid understanding of acoustic principles and their application to consultancy, testing, design, and product-based solutions.
- Familiarity with acoustic products such as sound absorption panels, barriers, and finishes, including performance criteria and relevant standards.
- Ability to interpret and produce technical specifications and supporting documentation.
Sales & Commercial Experience
- Experience in a technical sales, sales engineering, or client-facing consultancy role within acoustics, construction, or a related engineering sector.
- Confident managing enquiries, preparing quotations, and developing technically and commercially sound proposals.
- Good commercial awareness, including pricing and margin considerations.
Client & Communication Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to a range of stakeholders.
- Professional and responsive approach to client relationship management.
Business Development & Organisation
- Proactive attitude to business development, lead follow-up, and supporting marketing initiatives.
- Well organised, detail-focused, and comfortable using CRM systems and Microsoft Office tools.
Personal Attributes
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Practical, solutions-focused mindset with a desire to develop both technical and commercial skills.
- Fluent English (written and spoken).
- Ability to work remotely with own work-from-home setup.
