About the Role
Objective Personnel is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team in Soweto. As an Assistant Bookkeeper, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing invoices, and ensuring compliance with South African VAT and payroll legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture and process supplier invoices, customer invoices, receipts, and payments
- Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP)
- Perform bank, cash, and creditor reconciliations
- Assist with VAT 201 calculations and submissions
- Reconcile VAT control accounts and maintain supporting documentation
- Assist with payroll support functions, including PAYE, UIF, and SDL
- Support monthly EMP201 submissions and EMP501 bi-annual reconciliations
- Prepare schedules to support month-end and management reporting
- Maintain accurate and audit-ready financial records
- Respond to supplier and internal account queries
- Assist during external audits and independent reviews
- Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and relevant legislation
Requirements
- 1–3 years’ bookkeeping or finance administration experience
- Working knowledge of South African VAT and payroll legislation
- Experience with accounting software such as Sage Pastel, Sage Accounting, Xero, or QuickBooks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
