Main purpose of the job: Conduct research with adults and infants including drawing blood samples, participant management and referral, and assisting with data collection and management Location: DPHRU – Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto Key performance areas: Liaising with clinic staff and research team for efficient data collection Maintaining a good working relationship with local clinic staff To do study related duties as specified by the protocol Ensuring adherence to study specific standard operating procedures Review clinical data and complete the case report forms Communicate routinely with the study coordinator and principal investigator Do proper filing of results and any other study related documents in the relevant assigned place Ensure that study materials (printing of CRFs etc.) are always available on site Assist research team with tasks as needed Assist with phlebotomy where required Ensure that blood specimens are taken to the laboratory timeously Ensure that laboratory results are signed by the medical officer and filed correctly Ensure that all participants have informed consent forms and have completed them Required minimum education and training: Matric Qualified as an Enrolled Nurse Good Clinical Practice Certificate (GCP) will be added advantage Drivers Licence and able to drive manual vehicle Professional Body Registration: Registered with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse Required minimum work experience: Some experience as an Enrolled Nurse in a clinical environment would be an advantage The post would suit a newly qualified individual keen to learn Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities: Experience of health research and supporting research teams to deliver studies Good Clinical Practice/Human Subject Protection certification advantageous Ability to lead and work independently as well as be part of a multidisciplinary team Flexibility to adapt to changes in study requirements Empathetic towards people living with HIV/AIDS Ability to speak local languages Willingness to learn It is expected that s/he will apply consistent adherence to research and GCP practices Confidentiality, tact, and discretion must be always maintained Ability to manage self and prioritize own workload.
