About the Role
Helderberg Personnel CC is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for estimating costs, managing tendering processes, and ensuring financial objectives are met on construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Detail all material necessary for a contract to achieve specifications
- Estimate cost of plant, equipment, and materials
- Sub-contractual arrangements and Payment Certificates
- Calculate final estimated cost with adjustments for overheads and profit
- Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour, and equipment
- Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyse tenders, recommend tender awards, and conduct negotiations
- Establish and maintain tendering process and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals
- Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
- Liaise with main contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress and ensure financial objectives are met
Requirements
- Degree in construction science or construction management
- Several courses in cost estimating
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Estimator in the construction and civil industry
- Broad general understanding of current construction practices, methods, and materials
- Knowledge of techniques for construction scheduling
- Knowledge of construction site administration
- Strong mathematical and analytical abilities
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- High degree of attention to detail
Qualifications
- Formal education in construction science or construction management is preferred
