Job Description
Betko Fresh Produce, established in 1988, is a family-operated business specialising in the export of premium apples and pears to over 40 countries. Rooted in Villiersdorp, South Africa, Betko has grown from a local fruit trader into a respected international supplier and is looking for an experienced Pre-Sorter Line Manager to join the team.
The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring accurate and efficient fruit sorting using the Intelligent Quality Sorting (IQS) and Infrared Analysis (IFA) systems. This role assigns quality values to fruit based on internal and external characteristics, ensuring correct allocation to bins. The incumbent will be expected to work both day and night shift determined by operational scheduling.
Responsibilities:
- Set up sorting programmes in order to ensure that bins meet specifications and quality standards are maintained
- Conduct random sampling
- Ensure that daily tipping targets are met
- Resolve any operational issues
- Manage and schedule maintenance of machinery
- Manage and optimise packing line speed
- Personnel management (attendance, schedules, overtime, disciplinary matters, etc.)
- Collect, summarise and report daily production data accurately
Requirements:
- Matric
- A relevant tertiary management qualification will strengthen the application
- 3 years experience in a supervisory or assistant management role in the fruit industry
- Experience in fruit classification (e.g. grading, colour classification, sizing and quality standards)
- Mechanical and electrical insight
- Proven knowledge in the following software programmes: Vitrax, Excel, Greefa Dashboard, IQS & IFA
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Highly detail-oriented
- Routine-driven
- Punctual, reliable and disciplined
- Innovative thinker with a proactive mindset
