Job Description
The engineer proactively communicates with VIP clients, implements approved change plans, and provides standby support for emergencies. The position requires a highly skilled professional capable of managing complex technical environments independently, collaborating with NNOC or Tier 4 engineers as needed, and
maintaining high standards of SLA compliance and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Handle escalations from Business Support Specialists and Field Operations teams.
- Monitor and perform advanced troubleshooting on all network and VoIP systems, including RF and Fibre networks; escalate complex issues to NNOC or relevant departments where required.
- Configure, maintain, and optimise routers, switches, servers, firewalls, and IP addressing.
- Program and manage VoIP platforms, VPS, and SIP firewall configurations.
- Conduct maintenance on core network systems and VAS products.
- Implement approved change plans and support emergency/outage scenarios.
- Maintain accurate network and VoIP documentation (network maps, IP schemas, configuration records).
- Respond to real-time alerts to minimise downtime and maintain network reliability.
- Communicate directly with VIP clients via WhatsApp, providing proactive updates and personalised assistance.
- Compile weekly/monthly reports: system health, ticket statistics, IP allocations, project progress.
- Ensure SLA compliance and high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Provide standby support as needed.
- Perform ad hoc duties as required.
Key Outputs:
- Timely resolution of escalated tickets within SLA.
- Prompt diagnosis and resolution of RF and Fibre-related incidents.
- Accurate configuration and optimisation of network and VoIP systems.
- Proper escalation to NNOC or relevant teams when necessary.
- Proactive, timely communication with VIP clients.
- Up-to-date and accurate technical documentation.
- Reliable response to real-time alerts and system incidents.
- On-time submission of reports and documentation.
- Consistent achievement of SLA, customer satisfaction, and first-time resolution metrics.
- Effective standby and emergency support.
- Contribution to knowledge base and process improvements.
WORK EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
- 3–5 years’ experience in network engineering and/or VoIP engineering supporting complex environments.
- Strong proficiency in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IP routing, switching, and network device configuration.
- Hands-on experience with MikroTik, Cisco, Juniper, or Arista equipment.
- Deep understanding of OSPF, BGP, and complex topologies.
- Experience with VoIP platforms (Asterisk, PortaOne, SBC) including programming and maintenance.
- Skilled in firewall administration, SIP protocols, IP addressing, and VPS setups.
- Experience with RF networks and VAS products is highly advantageous.
- Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis abilities.
- Strong communication and reporting skills, including VIP client updates.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure, managing multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of Ubuntu/Linux environments advantageous.
- Experience with Ubiquiti equipment is highly advantageous.
Requirements:
- Minimum of Grade 12 is essential
- MTCNA Certification (MikroTik Certified Network Associate) is required.
- MTCRE Certification (MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer) is recommended.
- Additional certifications will be advantageous.
- Any other relevant network, VoIP, or RF certifications will be considered a strong asset.
