Job Summary

Nature of employment:

The successful incumbent will be employed on a permanent basis after completion of a probationary period.

Experience

  • The successful incumbent will have at least five (5) or more years’ experience as a contract manager.
  • Experience within the earthing and lightning protection industry is an added advantage.
  • Experience within electrical or construction field is an added advantage.

Formal education and qualifications as a minimum requirement

  • Matric
  • Qualification in construction or relevant field
  • Must be computer literate and proficient on Microsoft software
  • Practical experience and knowledge of SANS Code of Conduct and SABS Standards or relevant codes of practice
  • Own transport is mandatory
  • Ability to read construction drawings

Responsibilities:

      

  • Effective site planning and planning of teams, ensuring efficient use of team`s time (to be fully productive) to complete work in shortest possible time and to ensure targets are reached.
  • Quality control of physical work and installations on site.
  • Overseeing of outstanding work per project, progress reports, deadlines, responsibilities and manage changes to project scope should such be required.
  • Attending site meetings and ensuring HHK is represented in a reasonable manner
  • Transparent, clear, professional and courteous/amicable communication ensuring that deliverables fall withing the scope of work and the contract value
  • Control and maintenance of tools. A weekly detailed report of “tools” control performed by yourself must be submitted to the directors by Monday morning, providing details relating to dates, times etc.
  • On site supervision and random checks – ensuring full utilisation and productivity. Verifying all worksheets: timing, overtime, travelling to and from site etc. A weekly report of site inspections performed by yourself must be submitted to the directors by Friday afternoon, providing details related to dates, times, site locations and job specifications
  • Vehicle control – ensuring vehicles are kept in a neat, well-maintained manner by all drivers. Arranging services and repair as needed with stores. Checking  of drivers` logbooks, vehicle tracking and worksheets to ensure that all stops are recorded and full details of such are included. A weekly detailed report of vehicle control performed by yourself must be submitted to the directors by Monday morning, providing details relating to dates, times, vehicle information etc.
  • Control installation of materials and equipment to ensure compliance with drawings and site specifications
  • Supply the accounts department on a daily basis with information such as absenteeism, misuse or loss of tools, further reasons for deduction of performance bonus, van stock or driving bonuses, etc.
  • Administration and paperwork, relating to your position and related duties. All paperwork to be submitted timeously, in neat and accurate manner. This includes monthly job lists, providing feedback to senior management regarding jobs/clients. This includes updated job lists, weekly site planning to be sent to the directors on Friday afternoon.
  • Once accepting a new contract, ensure HHK has a signed purchase order, check price, material costing, timing, drawings, etc and programme contract procedure with client, site etc. Ensure all additional expenses, not previously known to the estimators, are covered by variation orders and paid by the client.
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements on site regarding health, safety and environmental policies, manuals and procedures
  • Ensure site instructions are received for any extra work required on site prior to work being carried out.
  • Arrange for lightning protection design (SABS approved) to be prepared by the drawing office, if not on record, alternatively discuss BOQ with estimator to ensure accurate costing and planning of materials
  • Complete invoice and test certificate as soon as job has been completed. Alternatively, prepare progress invoice, as required, before the 15th of the month
  • Report all incidents which have, or could result, in personal injury or environmental damage, as per site specific regulations
  • Arrange inhouse, meetings to discuss progress and problems on site with staff
  • Ensure HHK staff have been issued with correct safety equipment before departing for site and that it is worn on site, including all other health and safety requirements as well as preparation of Health and Safety Files
  • Living allowance – all monies advanced to you or your staff for living out must be accountable on your return. An expense sheet must be completed and handed into the office within two working days after arrival back.
  • Costing of jobs to be done daily
  • Stock control – stock checks and strict control of materials, checking and control of delivered materials, supervise the loading and off-loading of the teams` vehicle stock. Oversee vehicle stock materials issued and plan daily and weekly materials required based on contracts. Submit goods requisitions to stores for contracts staff requirements. Submit monthly material used by contracting staff to stores by the 15th of each month. A weekly detailed report of stock control performed by yourself must be submitted to the directors by Monday morning, providing details relating to dates, times, vehicle information etc.    
  • Effective management of the Cape Town branch.
  • Effective planning of teams, ensuring efficient use of Team’s time (to be fully productive) to complete works in the shortest time and ensure targets are reached.
  • Quality control of the physical works and installations on site.
  • Overseeing of outstanding work per project.
  • Attending site meetings
  • Conducting AMT’s, Inspections, and testing and compiling reports.
  • Conducting soil resistivity surveys
  • Control installation of materials and equipment to ensure compliance with drawings and site specifications
  • On site supervision on various larger projects as required. This may require you to stay on site (out of town) until the project is complete
  • Stock control Administration and paperwork, relating to your position and related duties. All paperwork to be submitted timeously, in a neat and accurate manner.
