Hire Resolve is seeking a highly skilled Senior Bookkeeper on behalf of our client, a reputable accounting firm based in Worcester, South Africa. Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records, including managing the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare and compile financial statements in accordance with IFRS for SMEs, customized to client needs.
- Perform and verify monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including adjustments and trial balance reconciliations.
- Conduct tax calculations and complete income tax returns for individuals, trusts, and corporations, ensuring compliance with South African tax laws.
- Generate periodic management reports for clients, highlighting key financial trends and insights.
- Serve as a point of contact for clients, offering guidance on accounting best practices and addressing inquiries.
- Support audit preparation by organizing documentation and providing required schedules and reconciliations.
- Identify process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance within accounting workflows.
- Mentor junior staff, providing training and oversight to ensure high-quality work and adherence to firm standards.
- Stay current with IFRS updates and tax regulations, applying this knowledge to maintain compliance and improve reporting practices.
Requirements
- Completion of SAICA articles is essential.
- Bachelors degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is advantageous.
- In-depth knowledge of IFRS for SMEs and proficiency in preparing financial statements from trial balance.
- Strong understanding of South African tax regulations, with experience in preparing tax returns for individuals, trusts, and corporations.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or Pastel, and advanced skills in Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting, preferably within an accounting firm or servicing multiple clients across various industries.
- Experience working with diverse client types, including NGOs, trusts, and companies in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and financial services.
- Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple client accounts accurately and efficiently.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability, with the capacity to interpret and explain complex financial information to clients.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn about new industries and client-specific requirements.
- A commitment to ongoing professional education, staying updated on new developments in IFRS, South African tax legislation, and best practices in bookkeeping.
