Job Summary
Requirements:
National Diploma in Information Technology or related field. Bachelors degree in computer science or information systems will be advantageous. Work Experience: Minimum of two years experience in maintaining digital records on servers and database maintenance Experience working on a project within an Archive/Heritage environment will be advantageous Proficiency in database maintenance and security Monitoring and maintenance of hardware and software “Administration knowledge/experience with Microsoft (client/server), Linux and MacOS.” Experience in the development and customisation of open-source web-based databases will be advantageous Required Skills, Competencies and Attributes: Excellent computer skills and knowledge Understanding, maintenance and administration of web- based opensource databases (e.g. Access to Memory (AtoM) Maintenance of the server Administration knowledge/experience with Microsoft (client/server), Linux and MacOS. Knowledge of relevant programming languages: Debian/Ubuntu-based Linux distribution (20.04) MySQL/MariaDB Apache or nginx PHP (config & setup) Active Directory / LDAP understanding Samba/CIFS setup and use Rsync, hashcodes (md5), etc. Virtualization engine (vmware, ESX and others) KEY PORTFOLIO AND PERFORMANCE FOCUS AREAS Maintain all digital assets including digital files on workstations and the server. Provide IT guidance, training and support, and oversee digitisation and digital preservation workflows for archival collections Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements including server upgrades. Maintain the performance, integrity and security of the Archive“s database including the updating of the database software Perform risk mitigation assessments and tasks for all digital assets and hardware, including access controls, privileges and permissions for the server and database. Designing maintenance procedures and putting them into operation. Liaise with relevant IT Departments at UWC and RIM to design and deploy secure server processes. Upload Collections Content to the Website Secure information and transfer data from older databases. Assist with data migration from legacy systems and hardware. Server administration: install, configure, and maintain various types of hardware and software, which often involves creating user accounts, carrying out backup and recovery functions, and monitoring the performance of the Mayibuye server. Configure, manage, and implement operating systems. In charge of backups and retrieval of resources. Administer and maintain system accounts through Active Directory Must troubleshoot hardware and software issues on the Mayibuye server.
