Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership and Oversight
– Supervise and lead the welding team to ensure quality, efficiency and compliance with project requirements.
– Act as the primary point of contact between the welding team, project managers and other departments.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
– Ensure all welding activities comply with industry standards, project specifications and relevant safety regulations.
– Oversee the implementation of quality control and quality assurance measures during welding processes.
Technical Expertise
– Provide technical guidance to welding personnel, troubleshooting welding-related issues and implementing best practices.
– Stay up to date with advancements in welding technologies, procedures and standards.
Training and Development
– Train and mentor welders to maintain high skill levels and ensure adherence to industry and project standards.
– Evaluate the performance of team members and recommend professional development programs.
Safety Management
– Promote a culture of safety by ensuring strict adherence to health, safety and environmental (HSE) policies.
– Conduct regular safety inspections of welding operations and ensure corrective actions are taken for any identified hazards.
Documentation and Reporting
– Maintain detailed records of welding operations, inspections and project progress.
– Prepare and submit reports to management on welding activities, including productivity, quality and compliance metrics.

Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
– Develop welding schedules, allocate resources and coordinate welding activities to meet project timelines and milestones.
– Ensure proper selection and handling of materials, welding equipment and consumables for the job.
Inspection and Testing
– Supervise non-destructive testing (NDT) of welds to verify compliance with project requirements.
– Conduct pre-weld and post-weld inspections to ensure structural integrity and quality.
Problem-Solving and Coordination
– Collaborate with engineers, inspectors and other stakeholders to resolve technical and operational challenges.
– Address welding defects or issues promptly to avoid project delays.
Regulatory Compliance
– Ensure all welding personnel hold valid certifications and qualifications as per industry standards.
– Confirm welding procedures meet the requirements of applicable codes such as ASME, AWS or ISO standards.
Cost Control
– Monitor welding activities to minimise waste and optimise resource utilisation.
– Assist in estimating and managing welding-related costs for projects.
Emergency Management
– Respond effectively to incidents, including weld failures or equipment malfunctions, to minimise disruptions.
– Ensure emergency procedures are understood and practiced by the welding team.

Experience & Qualification
– 3 to 5 years’ experience in a supervisory work environment within the petrochemical industry.
– Redseal qualification
– Medically fit to preform duties.
– Must be able to work shifts.
– Compulsory inhouse testing for potential candidates.
– Clear criminal record.
– Police clearance (SAPS) adventitious
