The Emergency Care Assistant (ECA) will practice as clinical assistants within the emergency medical care and rescue environment thereby replacing the Basic Ambulance Assistant Course as the entry qualification into the emergency medical services. This position is an entry-level qualification and recognises the key competencies required of Emergency Care Assistants (ECAs) who will work under the guidance of Emergency Care Technicians, Emergency Care Practitioners and Medical Officers in a variety of contexts. In general, the Emergency Care Assistant will provide a supportive service within the pre-hospital context.Ensures operational readiness for emergency callsAdministers patient care in line with the ECA scope of practiceReport near misses, slips and adverse eventsRequirementsHigher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care is essentialAmerican Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers serves as an advantage1-year operational experience as an Emergency Care AssistantA valid drivers license and valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) (Requirement for Operations shifts.
