Stellenbosch: Model Validation Lead

Our client, a leader in the financial services sector, is seeking a Model Validation Lead to strengthen their analytics and risk management team. In this role, you will lead independent validations across a wide range of models – from credit risk and fraud to financial optimization and marketing – while providing technical oversight, designing challenger models, and mentoring Analysts. This is an opportunity to combine technical depth, governance, and leadership in a role where your expertise directly shapes strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities: Provide subject matter expertise and oversight in the validation of machine learning and statistical models. Lead independent validations across multiple business areas, ensuring that regulatory and governance standards are met. Design and implement challenger models using advanced machine learning methods. Mentor and guide Analysts, supporting their skills development and professional growth. Collaborate with Model Developers and stakeholders, presenting findings and providing effective challenge. Enhance model validation methodologies, frameworks, and best practices. Job Experience and Skills Required: Honours Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science (Masters preferred). 6 years in model development within data science, with direct validation/review experience advantageous. Advanced knowledge of statistical and ML techniques (tree-based methods, neural networks, clustering, anomaly detection, etc.). Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and emerging technologies such as large language models. Proven ability to design and deliver end-to-end ML projects with minimal supervision. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience presenting findings at senior levels. Track record of mentoring Junior Analysts and supporting skills development. Apply now!
