Key Responsibilities:
- Query, analyze, and develop management financial reports.
- Manage the full BI project lifecycle, including defining issues, conducting business and technical analysis, designing solutions, developing, testing (internally and with business users), implementing solutions, documenting processes, and providing ongoing support.
- Use Microsoft BI tools such as SSRS, SSAS, Power BI, SQL queries, Excel, and pivot tables to deliver effective, business-appropriate solutions.
- Stay updated on technological advancements by continuously researching and evaluating new tools and resources.
- Provide technical support and knowledge sharing within the BI team.
- Train end users and technical support personnel as needed.
- Conduct code reviews, analyze execution plans, and optimize inefficient code.
- Collaborate with IT operations and testing teams to ensure timely project releases and maintain sustainable database environments.
- Work with IT operations to perform root cause analysis of issues.
- Follow directions and complete tasks promptly with minimal supervision.
- Participate in special projects and perform other BI-related responsibilities as assigned.
- Work effectively in a team setting while managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Independently produce clear and concise operational data reports tailored for various audiences, including executive leadership and board members.
- Establish, maintain, and allocate data tools for unit managers, anticipating data and analytical needs to support management decisions.
- Conduct quality assessments of data and reports to ensure reliability.
- Analyze findings and provide actionable insights and recommendations to executives and managers.
- Monitor industry benchmarks, trends, and standards, and communicate relevant information to executive leadership.
Job Experience and Skills required:
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent NQF qualification.
- Certification in Microsoft Business Intelligence (MS BI).
- Certified in Data Analytics or related field.
- A diploma or higher qualification, preferably with a focus on corporate or management finance, is advantageous.
- Over 5 years of experience in data analysis and data mining.
- More than 3 years’ experience in BI report creation using SSRS or similar business intelligence reporting and dashboard tools.
- Solid understanding and hands-on experience with financial reporting.
- Proven ability to design and present high-level management reports and presentations.
- Skilled in interpreting and analyzing complex data sets to extract meaningful insights.
- Advanced SQL query writing capabilities.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions.
- Practical experience with SSIS or other ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools.
- At least 2 years of experience in data warehouse architecture and design.
- A minimum of 2 years developing Microsoft SSAS tabular models.
- Over 3 years’ experience building Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Proficiency in DAX scripting is a strong advantage.
- Intermediate skills in C# would be beneficial.
- Deep understanding of data warehousing principles, aligned with industry best practices.
- Familiarity with web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is an added advantage.
- Experience as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) would be valuable.
- Proven ability to build strong, effective working relationships with executives, colleagues, and clients.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and complex environment.
- Strong critical thinking capabilities and a solution-oriented mindset.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills and improve work performance.
