Job Description
PBT Group is seeking an experienced and self-driven Senior Finance Manager to support the Financial Management function within a leading financial services environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of financial operations, reporting, and controls within a regulated industry.
This position requires strong technical accounting expertise within the insurance or financial services sector, coupled with the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing month-end processes.
- Preparing financial statements.
- Executing assigned financial tasks independently.
- Manage the full financial close cycle, ensuring compliance with industry-specific accounting standards and timelines.
- Prepare and review financial statements, management accounts, and regulatory submissions (e.g., FSCA, SARS, Prudential Authority).
- Oversee reconciliations for premiums, claims, reinsurance, and broker accounts.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of IFRS 17 and other evolving financial reporting frameworks.
- Collaborate with actuarial, underwriting, and claims teams to ensure financial accuracy and data integrity.
- Identify and resolve financial discrepancies and inefficiencies while maintaining robust internal controls.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Support internal and external audits, liaising effectively with auditors and relevant regulatory bodies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent (e.g., BCom Accounting, BAcc).
- Professional Registration: SAICA or SAIPA membership preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years experience in a Finance Manager or equivalent role within the insurance or financial services sector.
- Strong experience in:
- Month-end and year-end close processes.
- Regulatory and statutory reporting (SAM, IFRS 17, FSCA submissions).
- Premium and claims reconciliations.
- Reinsurance and intermediary account management.
- Audit preparation and financial controls.
- Resolving complex financial discrepancies.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent knowledge of South African insurance regulations and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in financial systems such as Oracle, SAP, Xero, or other industry-specific platforms.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
- Strong reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving ability.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Effective communicator, comfortable engaging with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and capable of operating autonomously within strategic parameters.
Reporting & Collaboration
- Reports directly to the Senior Financial Manager.
- Works closely with finance, actuarial, compliance, and operations teams.
- Expected to take ownership of key financial processes and contribute to overall operational excellence.
