We are recruiting on behalf of a specialised defence manufacturer for a Mechanical Design Engineer with specific experience in 40mm grenade launcher systems. This is a highly niche opportunity suited to an engineer with hands-on design, development, and testing expertise in military-grade weapon systems. The role is based full-time in Centurion.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and develop components and assemblies for 40mm grenade launcher systems
• Perform detailed mechanical calculations and tolerancing suited to military applications
• Create 3D models and manufacturing drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor)
• Collaborate with prototyping, testing, and manufacturing teams to refine designs
• Ensure all systems comply with safety standards, functional specifications, and defence regulations
• Participate in internal and external design reviews
• Support testing, evaluation, and documentation aligned with NATO/military standards
• Investigate and resolve engineering issues during development and production phases

Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
• Direct experience designing or developing 40mm grenade launchers
• Strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
• Familiarity with military standards, ballistics, and material selection for weapon systems
• Experience with prototyping and functional testing in a defence or aerospace environment
• Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to design precision and compliance
• South African citizenship (due to defence export control regulations)
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Centurion
