About the Role

Our client, a leading Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company in Johannesburg, South Africa, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Cost Accountant to join their team. As part of their continued growth, they are committed to delivering high-quality products to customers while maintaining cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret cost data to identify areas of inefficiency and recommend cost-saving strategies.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate inventory records, ensuring alignment with the company’s accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis.
  • Conduct regular variance analysis between actual costs and budgeted costs, providing insights into cost drivers and deviations.
  • Support the Senior Cost Accountant in developing and implementing cost control measures to optimize operational expenses.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and sales, to ensure accurate cost allocations and pricing decisions.
  • Assist in the budgeting and forecasting process, providing key inputs related to cost management.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of accounting systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy in cost accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within the FMCG industry.
  • Sound knowledge of cost accounting principles, techniques, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
