Job Description

FLUENT IN AFRIKAANS Job Purpose: The CI Field Technician Control & Instrumentation supports continuous improvement initiatives related to control, instrumentation, and automation systems on the shop floor and in the field. The role is hands-on and field-based, focused on improving safety, reliability, availability, and performance of instrumentation and control assets through standardisation, data-driven problem solving, and CI methodologies Key Focus Areas: Field support on instrumentation (pressure, flow, level, temperature, valves, sensors) Basic troubleshooting of control loops, PLC/SCADA I/O (under supervision) PLC Siemens/Beckoff Assist with commissioning, loop checks, shutdowns, and projects Support TPM, CMMS data accuracy, and CI improvement actions Ensure compliance with safety, calibration, and documentation standards Instrumentation & Control Field Support Assist with inspection, basic calibration checks, verification, and condition monitoring of field instruments (pressure, flow, level, temperature, switches, analyzers). Support troubleshooting of control loops, sensors, actuators, valves, and basic PLC/SCADA I/O issues under supervision. Assist with commissioning, loop checks, and functional testing during projects and shutdowns. Support standardisation of instrumentation installations, tagging, cabling, tubing, and panel layouts. Data Collection, Analysis & Reporting Collect and analyse instrumentation and control-related failure data, alarms, and downtime events. Support maintenance data accuracy in CMMS and asset registers for C&I equipment. Maintenance & Reliability Support (C&I) Support TPM activities related to control and instrumentation assets, including Autonomous Maintenance and Planned Maintenance tasks. Qualifications and Experience Minimum Requirements: National Diploma / NQF Level 56 in Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or Control Engineering. 25 years experience in an industrial environment with exposure to instrumentation, control, or automation systems.
