Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an opportunity available for a Phlebotomist for their Melrose Arch store, Sandton Region. Responsible for performing safe, accurate, and efficient blood collection and basic health screening procedures in a private primary health care clinic. The role supports physicians and nursing staff by ensuring high-quality specimen collection, patient preparation, and adherence to clinical and infection-control standards while delivering excellent patient care. Minimum Requirements: Essential: Grade 12/ Matric Certificate or Diploma in Phlebotomy or related health care field Minimum of 2 – 5 years experience in total rewards, experience in a private clinic or primary healthcare setting Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems Basic life support (BLS) or first aid certification Proven competency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection Computer literate MS Office Willing and able to work retail hours Job Description: Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection following established protocols. Label, handle, store, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis accurately. Ensure proper documentation and tracking of collected specimens. Maintain patient comfort and safety during all procedures. Conduct basic screening procedures such as: o Blood pressure measurement o Blood glucose testing (finger-prick) o Body mass index (BMI) measurement o Total Cholesterol o Lipogram o HB testing (finger-pick) o Urine dipsticks testing o Pregnancy testing o Vital signs as required Record and report screening results accurately in patient records. Verify patient identity and explain procedures clearly to ensure informed consent. Provide reassurance and professional support to patients, including children and anxious individuals. Address patient questions and concerns in a courteous and confidential manner. Adhere to infection prevention and control standards at all times. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Dispose of sharps and biohazard waste according to clinic policy and regulatory requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Prepare phlebotomy equipment and screening tools before procedures. Monitor and report stock levels of consumables and supplies. Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of equipment where applicable. Accurately document procedures and results in electronic or paper medical records. Comply with clinic policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Support clinic workflow and collaborate with healthcare professionals as needed. Housekeeping must be in accordance to Dis-Chem standards. Make sure that your workstation is always clean and tidy. Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures.
