About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our team in Johannesburg. As a key member of our enterprise network engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN, and datacentre network infrastructure. You will also be responsible for operating and supporting Extreme Networks switching environments, as well as providing expertise in routing, switching, firewall rule management, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Network Engineering Design
  • Implement, and maintain enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN, and datacentre network infrastructure
  • Operate and support Extreme Networks switching environments, including:
  • Configuration and maintenance of Extreme switches VLANs, trunking, STP, and redundancy
  • Troubleshooting performance and connectivity issues
  • Perform advanced routing and switching, including:
  • OSPF and BGP High-availability and failover designs
  • Act as Tier-3 escalation for complex network incidents
  • Firewall & Security
  • Full operational ownership of the firewall estate: configuration, management, and ongoing maintenance of FortiGate firewalls
  • Firewall policy and rule management, including:
  • Rule creation, optimisation, and cleanup
  • NAT and security policies
  • VPN configuration (site-to-site and remote access)
  • Monitoring firewall health, logs, and security events
  • Troubleshooting firewall-related incidents affecting application and user connectivity
  • Wireless & Edge Networking
  • Design, deploy, and support enterprise WiFi environments, including high-density office deployments
  • Secure wireless authentication (WPA2/WPA3, 802.1x)
  • Performance tuning and interference troubleshooting
  • Operations, Disaster Recovery & Collaboration
  • Support datacentre and disaster recovery network connectivity, ensuring resilience and failover readiness
  • Participate in planned maintenance windows and after-hours support where required
  • Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with:
  • Server and virtualization teams
  • Security teams
  • External vendors and service providers

Requirements

  • 7 years’ experience in enterprise network engineering
  • Hands-on FortiGate firewall administration and maintenance (not negotiable)
  • Providing experience with Extreme Networks switching environments
  • Strong expertise in routing and switching & firewall rule management and troubleshooting & network security and segmentation
  • Fortinet NSE (or equivalent FortiGate certification) preferred
  • Extreme Networks certification preferred CCNP (Enterprise or Security) or equivalent experience preferred

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer to join our team in Johannesburg. As a key member of our enterprise network engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our complex network infrastructure. You will have full operational ownership of our firewall estate and be responsible for ensuring the security and performance of our networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Network Engineering Design
