Job Summary
Role Overview:
The Payroll and Wages Administrator will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll and wages process for a workforce of 410–500 employees in the metal industry. The role ensures accurate and compliant payroll processing, maintains employee records, and adheres to statutory regulations and collective bargaining agreements.

Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing:
- Administer and process monthly and weekly payroll for 410–500 employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and benefits in line with company policies and industry-specific agreements.
- Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) and statutory requirements.
- Wages Administration:
- Manage and process wages, including adjustments for overtime, shift allowances, and leave pay.
- Handle employee queries related to payroll and wages promptly and professionally.
- Prepare and distribute payslips.
- Statutory Compliance:
- Ensure all statutory deductions (e.g., UIF, PAYE, and SDL) are calculated correctly and submitted on time.
- Submit statutory reports, including EMP201, EMP501, IRP5, and other relevant filings.
- Stay updated on labour laws, tax regulations, and metal industry-specific wage determinations
- Employee Records Management:
- Maintain accurate employee payroll and wage records, including new hires, terminations, and changes in employment status
- Ensure data confidentiality and compliance with POPIA regulations.
- Reporting and Reconciliation:
- Prepare monthly payroll and wage reports for management review.
- Reconcile payroll accounts, including third-party payments and statutory deductions.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation and reports.
- System and Process Improvement:
- Use payroll software to streamline and optimize payroll processing.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance to integrate payroll systems with time management and ERP tools.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve payroll efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
- Diploma or Degree in Payroll Administration, Finance, HR, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll and wages administration, preferably in the metal industry or a high-volume environment.
- Experience handling payroll for 400+ employees.
- Familiarity with unionized environments and collective bargaining agreements is essential.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Sage, VIP, or similar platforms).
- Advanced Excel skills for reporting and analysis.
- Knowledge of labor laws, tax regulations, and industry-specific wage requirements.
