About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Johannesburg, where you will provide engineering support to maintenance and production teams to maximise plant availability and reliability. As a key member of our mechanical engineering team, you will develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies, identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives, and lead and manage mechanical engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support to maintenance and production teams to maximise plant availability and reliability.
- Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment performance and reduce downtime.
- Lead and manage mechanical engineering projects, including equipment upgrades, installations, and plant modifications.
- Conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Manage contractors and service providers during maintenance shutdowns and project activities.
- Prepare technical specifications, scopes of work, and engineering reports.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to optimise operational efficiency.
- Support capital expenditure projects from concept through commissioning.
Requirements
- BEng/BSc Mechanical Engineering degree.
- Registered as an ECSA Candidate Engineer or Professional Engineer will be advantageous.
- Minimum 35 years’ experience in a manufacturing, paper, pulp, packaging, FMCG, or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience with rotating equipment, pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance management principles and reliability engineering.
- Experience in project management and continuous improvement initiatives.
