Job Summary
As the General Manager – Steel, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the clients steel manufacturing operations. You will play a key role in developing and implementing strategic plans to ensure the continued success and growth of the company. Your leadership skills, industry knowledge, and business acumen will be essential in driving productivity, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure preventative maintenance and repairs scheduled for assets in production departments are adhered to.
- General management of three warehouses in different provinces, including staff management, product management, and premises management.
- Weekly management of stock sheets across the three warehouses.
- Handle all purchase orders for the business from varied suppliers.
- Prepare client quotations.
- Predict steel requirements for upcoming projects and manage timelines for placing orders.
- Extract steel requirements per store to determine delivery needs (Excel spreadsheets).
- Manage client stock and oversee deliveries when requested.
- Complete monthly sales journals with correct allocations.
- Prepare yearly sales budgets.
- Oversee powder coating/re-powder coating of steel to secure the best client discounts.
- Nurture client relationships.
- Develop new business opportunities.
- Assist the transport supervisor in managing transport needs for five supplier companies.
- Update supplier prices regularly.
- Conduct site visits.
- Travel between provinces.
- Perform quarterly stocktakes.
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in Production or Operations management.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in steel manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Proven track record of achieving business objectives and driving operational excellence.
- Knowledge of steel manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and quality standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP software systems.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
