Job Description

Architect Job Specification 1. Job Summary The Architect is responsible for designing and managing the construction documentation for building projects, ranging from initial concept development through to construction administration. This role requires strong design sensibilities, technical proficiency, project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams. 2. Key Responsibilities Design and Documentation: Develop architectural designs from concept sketches through detailed construction documents (CDs) across all project phases (Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents). Prepare and manage drawings, specifications, and reports using industry-standard software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD). Ensure designs comply with building codes, zoning ordinances, accessibility standards , and other relevant regulations. Project Management: Assist in managing project timelines, budgets, and resources . Coordinate and manage the work of external consultants (structural, MEP, civil engineers, etc.). Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Construction Administration: Review and process shop drawings and submittals from contractors. Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to design intent and specifications. Prepare field reports, change orders, and pay applications . Team Collaboration: Mentor and direct junior staff and technicians. Participate in client presentations and team design charrettes. 3. Required Qualifications and Skills Education and Licensure Professional Degree: A minimum of a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) or Master of Architecture (M.Arch) from an accredited program. Licensure: Registered Architect (RA) status in [Specify required state/region, e.g., the state of New York, or ‘eligible for licensure in’] is required or strongly preferred (depending on the seniority of the role). Experience: [Specify range, e.g., 5-10] years of post-graduate professional experience in an architectural firm. Technical Skills Software Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in BIM software (e.g., Autodesk Revit is often essential) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD). Design Tools: Proficiency in design and presentation software (e.g., SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite ). Code Knowledge: Deep understanding of International Building Code (IBC) or relevant local building codes, accessibility standards (e.g., ADA), and zoning regulations. Documentation: Proven ability to produce high-quality, comprehensive Construction Document sets. Soft Skills Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication and presentation skills. Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities to resolve complex design and construction challenges. Organizational: Exceptional ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks. Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage client relationships professionally. 4. Preferred (Bonus) Qualifications Certification: LEED AP , WELL AP, or other relevant professional certifications. Project Specific Experience: Experience in [Specify relevant building type, e.g., Healthcare, Multi-Family Residential, Commercial Office] projects. Software: Proficiency in advanced rendering software (e.g., V-Ray, Enscape, Lumion). Field Experience: Significant experience in construction administration and field observation. 5. Reporting Structure The Architect will report directly to the [Specify role, e.g., Project Manager, Principal, or Senior Architect] . 6. Working Conditions Primarily office-based, with regular time spent at construction sites and client meeting locations. Occasional travel may be required depending on project location. Standard business hours, with the need for extended hours occasionally to meet critical deadlines.
