About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Secretary to join our team in Cape Town City Centre. As a Commercial Legal Secretary, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to attorneys and managing litigation files, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting, formatting, and preparing court pleadings, notices, affidavits, summonses, and commercial agreements
- Managing filing of court documents via relevant court systems
- Diary management for attorneys, including court dates, consultations, and deadlines
- Liaising with clients, counsel, sheriffs, messengers, and court officials in a professional manner
- Managing litigation files (physical and electronic), ensuring accurate indexing and record keeping
- Preparing and managing trial bundles, discovery files, and pagination
- Attending to billing, time capturing, invoicing, and follow-ups on outstanding accounts
- Opening, maintaining, and closing client files in accordance with firm procedures
- Conducting basic legal research and assisting with case preparation where required
- Handling correspondence, emails, and telephone communications
Requirements
- Matric
- Relevant legal qualification
- Sound understanding of High Court litigation processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Experience in commercial agreements
- Strong organisational, communication, and administrative skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Meticulous attention to detail
