Cape Town City Centre: Mechanical Design Head / Civil Engineer

Job Description

Minimum requirements: Matric Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Professional registration advantageous) Proven experience in a mechanical design leadership role, preferably within water or wastewater treatment Strong technical expertise in piping systems, pump stations, and mechanical plant design Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams Solid project management capability, including cost, schedule, and quality control Strong working knowledge of EHS, quality systems, and regulatory compliance standards Proficiency in CAD design platforms and project management tools (e.g. Microsoft Project) Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills Key Responsibilities: Lead and oversee mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment projects Review, approve, and ensure accuracy of drawings, specifications, and technical calculations Ensure designs are cost-effective, energy-efficient, sustainable, and fit for purpose Provide technical leadership across all project phases, from planning and procurement through construction and commissioning Coordinate resources and align multidisciplinary teams to meet project timelines and deliverables Ensure all engineering work complies with quality, health & safety, and environmental standards Collaborate closely with Production and Manufacturing to ensure designs are practical and buildable Lead, coach, and manage the mechanical design team, providing guidance on complex design challenges Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and best-practice design standards to reduce risk and improve project outcomes Manage assigned projects, including cost, schedule, quality, subcontractors, and overall delivery performance Consultant: Rene Otte – Dante Personnel Greenstone
