Job Summary

Purpose of the Role: Ensure production equipment is in goods operating conditions and well maintained. Ensure correct setting of machine. Conduct fault analysis in case of malfunction or rejects. Role: PET Process Technician Location : Western Cape Industry: Rigid Plastics Qualification: Bachelor`s Degree / Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering 5 Years relevant Setting experience Knowledge: Sound understanding of Drawings Fundamentals of fault finding and equipment testing Sound knowledge on Health & Safety – procedures Skills Installation of parts & related equipment Fault finding and problem solving skills Ability to act decisively and urgently High level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills Career growth Packaging and PET processing – future growth Decision Making Able to make good business aligned judgement decisions at an operational level whilst maintaining maintenance standards, practices & procedures in line with defined and communicated authority as per instructions, Accountability: Responsible for all activities linked to position as defined Ensure escalation to the appropriate level of authority Communication: Ensure transparent, responsive and open communication between colleagues.

Responsibilities:

Technical: Identify, report, and rectify all technical areas of concerns on assigned production equipment ( machines, moulds, etc.) In-depth understanding : Product and its quality criteria Process (material feeding and drying, injection moulding, reheat stretch blow moulding and injection blow moulding) All equipment – detailed for assigned equipment Mould installation Technical principles and drawings ( assemblies and spare part finding, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric) Fault Analysis and problem solving: Conduct fault analysis and problem solving Product quality, process issues Mould issues Machine malfunction ( mechanic / hydraulic / pneumatic/ electric Recognize and report problems to Maintenance Manager & Production Manager on other than the assigned equipment. Maintenance: Independently develop maintenance is done at required intervals according to the plans By yourself By service suppliers as agreed by Maintenance Manager & Production Manager Document maintenance according to the plans Spares: Identify spares needed for assigned equipment: In general As a preventative measure identified during maintenance checks. Machine Setting: Independently develop machine setting (teamwork as needed) Set and check that machines are correctly set for each run. Document settings and setting adjustments centrally If needed ( for fault finding, etc. ) the technician is allowed to temporarily run the machine with bridged safe switch, while present at the machine. He must be aware of the risk that comes with such action and it is his responsibility to ensure he does not get himself or others into dangerous situations He must ensure he takes the right precautions (e.g. know the movements of the machine, special PPE like face shields for such actions. He must make sure other staff are not near the danger of the machines. Management: Liaise with Maintenance Manager & Production Manager to ensure machine availability vs. major maintenance intervals. Have an overview what needs to be done and report to and report to managers. Give completion dates and fulfil tasks required by Maintenance Manager & Production Manager Ensure sound relationships and communication with internal work related staff (QC and Production) and external ( Toolroom, Technical department and suppliers. Strive for improvement, research and make suggestions. Administration: Log jobs performed Analyze Defect Register together with Maintenance Manager & Production Manager to assist in solving problems ( quotes on service, spare parts, etc.) Spares: have an overview of existing stock for equipment Spare part analysis ( keep stock vs. source at breakdown) Likelihood of wear / breakage vs cost vs. delivery time. Report parts needed to Maintenance Manager & Production Manager and assist in decision to have on stock or source at breakdown. Assist Maintenance Manager & Production Manager in ordering process: Prepare documents Follow up on orders Plan for the year ahead, assist Maintenance Manager & Production Manager with work on budget for maintenance. Health & Safety: Ensure and enforce that aspects in area of responsibility conform to health and safety requirements. Maintain housekeeping standards in area of responsibility. e.g. ensure cleanliness assigned machine and areas. Work safely and report on safety hazards or issues. Report any accidents, incidents, and near misses. Quality: Apply the company`s quality principles and standards Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Food Safety System Certification ( FSSC) Food safety standards are site specific and at these sites employees should: Apply the site`s food safe principles and standards Report any food safety hazards or issues to your Supervisor Comply to and maintain all GMPs in relation to the company`s FSMS ( Food Safety Management Services) Self- Development – Growth – Training Realistic assessment of own strengths and development areas and undertake actions to address weaknesses, if any that hinders the fulfilment of your objectives. Keep abreast of innovation and technical improvements for further self-development and the development of the company, Keep contact to your key suppliers and discuss with them. Read operator manuals of machines Teamwork and co-operation Self- Management Leadership and interpersonal relationship Product and service quality General: Perform additional tasks as required .Ensure team focus and accountability Apply the company`s principles and standards Set standards to be a role model for the team
