Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities

Delivery Operations Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of the delivery teams, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of orders to customers as per logistics system.
  • Ensure that orders are timeously sequenced in the most efficient way to meet or exceed company goals/objectives.
  • Ensure all deliveries meet the required service levels, addressing any delays or disruptions in the delivery process.
  • Ensure that all forms of communication are adhered to and that any necessary support, action and investigation are carried our timeously.
  • Ensure that all goods are loaded, transported, offloaded & delivered in such a way that the integrity of the product is always maintained throughout the entire distribution function.
  • Monitor and optimize the use of distribution resources, including vehicles, personnel, and equipment, to ensure maximum efficiency.

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Act as a central point of contact for communication between the distribution team, drivers, and other departments.
  • Supervise and manage the performance of the delivery team
  • including drivers and support staff.
  • Provide clear instructions and updates to the team regarding delivery schedules, routes, priorities and any operational changes.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and training to the delivery team to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Ensure that all S.O. Ps are consistently adhered to within the distribution function and that any variations are understood and solutions implemented

Training and Development:

  • Develop and implement training programs for the distribution team, including drivers and support staff, to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular training sessions to ensure team members are up to date with company policies, safety regulations, and best practices.
  • Monitor individual and team performance and provide coaching and feedback to ensure continuous improvement.

Vehicle & Resource Management:

Coordinate the allocation of vehicles and drivers based on delivery requirements, ensuring optimal resource utilization

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Track key delivery metrics, including on-time deliveries, order accuracy, and customer satisfaction related to the timely and successful delivery of goods to customers.
  • Prepare and submit daily and weekly performance reports to the Distribution Manager, highlighting areas for improvement.
  • Analyse delivery performance data to identify trends and make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Assess routes, delivery schedules, and vehicle capacity to improve overall resource utilization.
  • Maintain accurate records of training sessions, safety compliance checks, and resource management.

Customer Service & Issue Resolution:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for delivery-related customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Work closely with the other operational teams to ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Address and resolve any delivery-related issues, such as late deliveries, order discrepancies, or driver concerns, in a timely manner.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure all delivery activities are conducted in compliance with local and national transportation regulations.
  • Monitor and enforce driver compliance with company safety protocols, including vehicle checks, driver logs, and accident reporting procedures.
  • Maintain and enforce safety standards for the team, including proper handling of goods, safe driving practices, and compliance with road regulations.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the delivery team and ensure adherence to health and safety regulations.

Process Improvement:

  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve delivery processes, using data analysis and feedback from the delivery team and customers.
  • Implement new technologies and best practices to enhance delivery efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Work with the Distribution Manager to identify and implement process improvements that align with the companys strategic objectives.
