Job Summary
Key responsibilities include but not limited to the following: Purchasing of deciduous and citrus fruit with more of a focus on the deciduous fruit and less on citrus Developing relationships with new and existing South African suppliers/ farmers. Price negotiations with growers and packhouses Implementation of seasonal programs Quality control Dealing with claims and negotiating the best settlement for our clients Reporting on the availability and range of the fruit (and vegetables) to our Business Development Managers. Required skills, ability and experience: Extensive knowledge of local South African fruit (and vegetable) growers and packhouses Extensive knowledge of international fruit (and vegetable) growers and packhouses At least 5 years experience in the procurement / buying field Experience in building relationships with growers and a successful track record of doing so Experience in negotiating and implementing systems Extensive knowledge of fruit (and vegetables), their seasonality and quality standards A successful track record in the fruit procurement field Experience in the exportation of Fruit (and vegetables) would be a plus Good computer and excel skills. Have had previous experience in reporting and presentations. Ideal characteristics include: Driven, determined and proactive An excellent communicator Able to work independently or within a team structure Assertive and able to take calculated decisions Resourceful Energetic A never give up attitude Salary will be market related and dependent on experience.
