Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced PHP Team Lead to join our development team. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of PHP developers in the design, development, and deployment of high-quality software solutions. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are delivered on time and to specification. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in PHP, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for mentoring and developing a team.

Key

• Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Lead and manage a team of PHP developers, providing technical guidance, support, and mentorship.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment focused on continuous learning, quality coding practices, and professional growth.
  • Conduct regular code reviews, pair programming sessions, and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Promote and enforce Agile development practices (Scrum, Kanban) to improve team efficiency and project delivery.

• Technical Ownership:

  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of PHP-based applications and solutions.
  • Take ownership of architecture and code quality, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and security of all deliverables.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies, tools, and processes to improve development workflows and outcomes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, working with the team to ensure that problems are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.

• Project Management & Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and QA teams to define project requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Break down complex requirements into actionable tasks and ensure that the team meets deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Manage team resources, track progress, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Continuous Improvement & Innovation:

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by staying up to date with the latest trends, frameworks, and tools in the PHP ecosystem.
  • Lead efforts to refactor legacy code and implement best practices for code maintainability.
  • Encourage team members to contribute to open-source projects, share knowledge, and explore innovative solutions.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Technical Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in PHP, including experience with popular frameworks like Laravel, Symfony, or Zend Framework.
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end libraries/frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js) is a plus.
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and web services integration.
  • Experience with version control tools, especially Git.
  • Knowledge of unit testing and automated testing frameworks (e.g., PHPUnit, Behat).

• Leadership Skills:

  • Previous experience leading or managing a team of developers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships across teams.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior developers, promoting a culture of growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and provide solutions before they impact project timelines.

• Project Management & Organisational Skills:

  • Experience with Agile project management methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working with project management tools such as Jira, Trello, or Asana.

• Soft Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality code on time.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and a fast-paced work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and containerisation technologies.
• Knowledge of front-end development frameworks and tools (e.g., React, Vue.js, Webpack).
• Experience with Node.js, Python, or other back-end technologies is a plus.
