Job Summary

Role: Quality Engineer Location: Durban Qualifications: Matric Bachelors degree in engineering or related field; certification in quality management is a plus. Minimum 5 years proven experience in quality engineering or quality management roles within the automotive or manufacturing industry. Clear criminal record Skills: Strong understanding of quality management systems, standards (e.g., ISO/TS 16949, 9001 & 14001), and regulatory requirements applicable to automotive manufacturing. Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and Statistical Process Control (SPC). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve quality objectives and drive continuous improvement. Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., MS Office, statistical analysis software) and quality management systems (e.g., ERP, QMS). High Attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Deadline Driven Duties & Responsibilities: Quality Management Systems (QMS) Implement and maintain a robust quality management system in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO/TS 16949, 9001 & 14001). Ensure compliance with customer-specific quality requirements and facilitate customer audits and assessments. Continuously improve the effectiveness of the QMS through internal audits, management reviews, and corrective/preventive actions. Supplier Quality Management: Collaborate with procurement and supplier management teams to establish quality requirements for raw materials, components, and outsourced processes. Conduct supplier audits and assessments to evaluate compliance with quality standards and contractual requirements. Work closely with suppliers to address quality issues, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize manufacturing processes and improve product quality, reliability, and efficiency. Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to implement process improvements, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive measures. Utilize quality tools and methodologies such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to quality assurance personnel and production operators on quality standards, procedures, and best practices. Foster a culture of quality consciousness and continuous improvement throughout the organization. Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of quality assurance personnel and production operators. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of quality inspections, test results, and non-conformities. Generate quality reports and metrics to track performance, trends, and areas for improvement. Key Responsibilities Quality Management Systems (QMS) Implement and maintain robust QMS in compliance with ISO/TS 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 standards. Ensure adherence to customer-specific quality requirements. Lead internal audits, management reviews, and corrective/preventive action initiatives. Supplier Quality Management Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to define and uphold supplier quality standards. Conduct supplier audits, assessments, and implement corrective action plans. Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers. Process Improvement Identify and lead initiatives to optimize manufacturing processes and enhance product quality. Apply methodologies such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and SPC to support quality-driven improvements. Training and Development Train quality personnel and production teams on standards, tools, and best practices. Champion a company-wide culture of quality and continuous improvement. Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of quality assurance personnel and production operators. Documentation and Reporting Maintain detailed quality records, reports, and metrics. Analyze trends and communicate findings to management and stakeholders for strategic decision-making. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (Quality certifications are a plus). Minimum of 5 years’ experience in quality engineering or quality management within the automotive or manufacturing sectors. Strong understanding of quality management systems, standards (e.g., ISO/TS 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001), and regulatory requirements applicable to automotive manufacturing. Skilled in quality tools and methodologies such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Statistical Process Control (SPC). Proficiency in MS Office, ERP systems, and statistical analysis software. High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to meet deadlines. Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
