Job Description

We’re seeking a proactive, technically strong individual to join our small, dynamic team at Luvanize as a full-time Technical Quoting & Sales Engineer. This role is central to bridging customer needs with accurate, profitable proposals and seamless handovers to our design and production teams. In a growing business like Luvanize, you’ll focus on high-value technical work (quoting, costings, concepts, customer liaison) while also handling some lighter business-support tasks (e.g., basic social media posting to showcase our projects). These extras are minimal now and will be delegated as we scaleideal for someone adaptable who enjoys variety and contributing to overall success. Key Responsibilities Develop conceptual designs for new projects and RFQs using Autodesk Inventor (parametric modeling, assemblies, key features) to establish accurate cost bases and feasibility checks. Perform detailed machining, fabrication, and assembly costings based on Inventor models (extract BOMs, material volumes, feature complexities, iProperties). Track and manage Requests for Quotations (RFQs) from receipt to response/follow-up. Engage directly with customers (phone, email, site visits) to clarify requirements, take measurements, discuss technical aspects, and confirm proposals align with their needs. Handle customer complaints/resolutions promptly, escalating as needed while maintaining strong relationships. Draft comprehensive, technically sound quotes for owner approval, incorporating risk assessments and value-adds. Prepare handover packages to the design office (Inventor files, BOM exports, notes, simplified views); provide occasional Inventor support during design overload periods. Manage light social media presence (primarily LinkedIn, possibly Facebook/Instagram): 3-5 posts/week featuring project showcases, fabrication/machining processes, tips, or customer wins (using phone/camera for contentno advanced design skills required). Support ad-hoc business tasks as the company grows (e.g., supplier queries or basic quote admin). Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent (or strong proven experience in lieu). 3 years in technical quoting, costing, sales engineering, or related roles within manufacturing/machining/fabrication/machine building. Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (essential for conceptual modeling, assemblies, BOM extraction, and basic analysis). Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, machining processes (CNC, turning, milling), fabrication techniques, materials, and cost drivers. Excellent communication skills for customer technical discussions, site liaison, and complaint handling. Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle (essential for site visits in the Eastern Cape region). Proactive, adaptable mindset comfortable in a small-team environment with blended responsibilities. Familiarity with ERP/CRM tools or Excel for RFQ tracking and costing (advantageous)
