Key Responsibilities
Technical Duties
- Assist with external audit and assurance engagements, including vouching, stock counts, and bank confirmations
- Support the preparation of Annual Financial Statements in accordance with IFRS / IFRS for SMEs
- Prepare and assist with tax compliance, including VAT201, EMP201, and ITR14 calculations
- Compile monthly management accounts, bank reconciliations, and cash flow forecasts
- Attend to CIPC-related duties, including annual returns and statutory changes
Professional & Compliance Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and detailed timesheets in line with firm and SAICA requirements
- Complete SAICA assessments, including Learning Outcome Reviews (LORs) and Academic Needs Analyses (ANAs)
- Apply professional judgement and ethical scepticism when reviewing client information
- Demonstrate continuous learning and development in line with the SAICA Competency Framework
Minimum Requirements
Academic Qualifications
- Minimum: SAICA-accredited undergraduate degree (e.g. BCom Accounting / BCompt)
- Preferred: CTA / PGDA completed (enables a 3-year training contract)
- Candidates without CTA may be considered, noting that the training contract duration will be extended in line with SAICA requirements
Additional Requirements
- Eligibility to register with SAICA as a Trainee Accountant
- Clean criminal record and adherence to the SAICA Code of Professional Conduct
- Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport (client site visits required)
- Strong computer literacy, with advanced MS Excel skills (non-negotiable)
- Exposure to accounting software such as CaseWare, Pastel, or Xero will be advantageous
