Duties and Responsibilities:

• Tool & Equipment Handling
  • Fetching and returning tools for artisans welders.
  • Cleaning, checking, and maintaining basic tools.
• Material Preparation
  • Cutting, grinding, drilling, or sanding simple parts under supervision.
  • Preparing steel, pipes, or components before they are welded or assembled.
  • Cleaning weld spatter and fettling welds.
• Workshop Housekeeping
  • Keeping the workshop clean, safe, and organized.
  • Sweeping, removing scrap, and ensuring walkways are clear.
• Assisting with Assembly/Repairs
  • Holding, lifting, and positioning parts during assembly.
  • Passing bolts, nuts, and components to fitters or millwrights.
  • Lubricating and cleaning machine components.
• Loading & Moving
  • Helping with loading/unloading of parts and equipment.
  • Using trolleys, pallet jacks, or hoists under supervision.
• Learning & Development
  • Observing artisans and gradually learning basic technical skills.
  • Often a stepping stone into an apprenticeship (millwright, fitter, welder).
