Job Description

Purpose of the Role: The Carpenter Tradesman is responsible for optimizing and overseeing the development and implementation of new and current products in furniture production. The role ensures efficient use of machinery, materials, and manpower to deliver high-quality products. While driving new products and process improvements, reducing waste, and maintaining safety and compliance standards. Performing manual tasks, operating machinery, interpreting designs, adhering to safety protocols, managing materials, and collaborating with a team to meet quality and production deadlines. Key Responsibilities: Fabrication and installation Material Handling Operating machinery Design interpretation CNC operation Technical interpretation Assembly and finishing Quality Control Maintenance Safety and housekeeping Key Performance Areas: Develop and design new products Implement and improve new and current products Read and interpretation of drawing production specification to guide the manufacturing process Material yield (was reduction on timber, board, and finishes) Quality reject rate (doors/furniture passing QC first time) Qualifications and experience: Diploma/Certificate (or equivalent) Relevant certifications such as the National certificate in Furniture Making from SAQA College of AITF are beneficial 3-5 years experience Hands-on experience with CNC machinery, woodworking process, and assembly lines advantageous but not necessary. Knowledge of raw materials and their applications ISO quality standards and health and safety regulations Skills and competencies: Technical proficiency Technical drawing interpretation Quality awareness Physical capability Attention to detail Teamwork Practical skills Design and problem solving Communication Analytical and organisational skills Adaptability Safety awareness
