Job Description The Marine Underwriter is responsible for underwriting, administering, and supporting marine insurance business with a strong technical foundation and high attention to detail. The role focuses on policy administration, renewals, new business underwriting, and maintaining professional broker relationships while operating within delegated underwriting authority. Key Responsibilities Underwriting and Administration Analyse new business submissions, risk profiles, and underwriting data Prepare and issue new business quotes within mandate Negotiate terms and follow up on quotes with brokers Load, issue, and activate new policies on the Cardinal Insurance Management System Process policy endorsements and amendments accurately and timeously Pull and analyse loss data for renewals Prepare renewal invitation packs for Senior Underwriters and submit to brokers Broker and Stakeholder Engagement Maintain strong working relationships with brokers Provide professional and efficient client-facing support Liaise with internal underwriting teams and assist senior underwriters where required Qualifications 25 years experience in marine insurance underwriting or administration FAIS Fit and Proper compliant RE5 qualification completed Relevant insurance qualification (advantageous) Own reliable transport Skills Knowledge and Technical Competence Working knowledge of marine insurance principles Knowledge of Incoterms (advantageous) Basic understanding of contracts (advantageous) Strong geographical knowledge Awareness of current affairs impacting the marine industry Skills and Competencies Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability Good interpersonal and client-facing skills Computer literate and comfortable working on insurance systems Professional, reliable, and able to work within a team
