Johannesburg: Production Foreman – Extrusion Line (Germiston Area)

The Foreman will be responsible for the supervision, co-ordination, material control, testing and efficient running of manufacturing on the line MINIMUM SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED A proven track record in a production environment with a minimum of 5 years experience in a related supervisory/foreman position. Minimum Grade 12 but preferably a qualified Artisan. Shop floor experience. Knowledge of the OSH Act and experience in the administration of Safety, Health and Environmental requirements. Knowledge of current labour law and basic I.R. procedures. Computer literate (particularly Excel) and knowledge of Syspro is a requirement. Previous MRP experience will be advantageous. Good verbal and written English communication skills at all levels are essential. Must we willing and able to work extended shifts 12 hr shifts. Previous plastic line setting is required. Must be able to test material (regrind) for suitability to be used on the production line. Must be able to test final product to ensure it meets specifications BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF KEY PERFORMANCE Supervision and control of all personnel, including workload and time keeping. Inspects & tests products to verify conformance to specifications. Directs setup and adjustments of machines. Studies production schedules and estimates employee hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Maximizes efficient use of all resources. Ensures that job flows are correctly adhered to as per production schedule. Ensure scanning activities are strictly adhered to. Ensures that all expenses are controlled and remain within budget. Keep waste / scrap to a minimum takes positive action to prevent recurrence. Interprets Company policies. Implements and enforces environmental, health and safety regulations and initiatives. Interprets specifications, drawings and job orders to employees and assigns duties. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the department and/or work crew. Analyses and resolves work problems or assists employees in solving work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate employees to achieve work goals. Maintain time and production records. Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization and to ensure machines adhere to minimum safety standards. Continually strives to maintain high standards and reduce production costs. Keeps Senior Management fully appraised of production matters. Maintains a high standard of housekeeping. Material management via Syspro (training will be supplied). Assists Production Managers in compiling daily / weekly / monthly production reports. Assists with the compilation of procedures, works instructions and safe work procedures as related to the production procedure. Hold Green Area meetings with all staff.
