Job Description

This conservation-centered, volunteer organisation is operating on a seasonal basis within the northern wilderness of Limpopo. They offer immersive, research-driven experiences that support wildlife conservation while hosting international volunteers in a remote bush setting. They are looking for a hands-on, adaptable individual who can confidently manage camp operations, lead a small team, and step into a guiding role when needed, all while maintaining high standards of safety, organisation, and guest experience. The ideal candidate is proactive, resilient, and genuinely passionate about conservation and working in a remote environment. Candidate Responsibilities: Overseeing the overall operational efficiency of the camp Monitoring and coordinating basic maintenance and infrastructure needs Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and risk management procedures Fulfilling the role of research guide during staff leave periods, including leading activities and supporting volunteers as required Maintaining a working knowledge of both projects operated at the camp, including conservation research, habitat management and photography programmes, to ensure effective oversight and support. Assisting with the onboarding and orientation of new volunteers and staff Managing staff schedules and operational cover where required Managing stock levels, supplies, and ordering in coordination with head office Overseeing camp budgets, petty cash, and card transactions Liaising with suppliers and service providers as needed Handling volunteer issues or concerns professionally and efficiently Acting as the primary point of contact between camp, research teams, and head office Core Criteria: FGASA qualification or CATHSETA accreditation Valid First Aid certificate Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) South African citizen or holder of a valid work visa Proven experience managing or assisting with the operation of a remote camp or lodge Experience working with volunteers in a structured field-based environment Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a small team Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills A genuine interest in conservation and research-based programmes A calm, proactive, adaptable, and solutions-focused approach to work Package Offer: Live-in position (shared accommodation) Meals provided Laundry service Free Wi-Fi Working hours: Monday to Friday (Weekends off unless filling in for a research guide) Please note: This is a 6-month fixed-term contract, starting mid-April
