About the Role
GMI Advisory is seeking a highly skilled and experienced DevOps Engineer to join our team in Midrand. As a key member of our cloud operations team, you will be responsible for building high-performing, scalable enterprise-grade platform services and contributing to the development lifecycle to deliver solutions against business requirements at an optimal cost.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex cloud environments
- Optimize and automate deployments
- Collaborate closely with cloud engineers, security engineers, and cloud architects
- Apply critical thinking, design thinking, and problem-solving skills in an agile team environment
- Contribute to and lead all phases of the development lifecycle
- Determine operational feasibility of solutions by evaluating analysis, problem definition, business requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions
- Quickly produce well-organized, optimized, and documented source code to deliver technical solutions
- Ensure designs and solutions support the technical organization principles of self-service, repeatability, testability, scalability, and resilience
- Apply general design patterns and paradigms to deliver technical solutions
Requirements
- 10 years of experience in IT with a strong focus on cloud operations and engineering
- 7 years of hands-on AWS experience managing large-scale production environments
- Expertise in AWS services such as EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, VPC, IAM, ECS/EKS, and more
- Strong DevOps and automation expertise using Terraform, Ansible, or other configuration management tools
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Extensive experience with monitoring/logging solutions (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus, ELK, Datadog)
- Strong knowledge of observability best practices, including tracing, logging, and metrics collection
