Job Summary
SATI is the industry association of table grapes in South Africa. We represent growers through the implementation of initiatives aimed at creating more opportunities from ownership to accessing markets in a sustainable way. SATI delivers various services, including providing growers with the latest industry information to inform commercial decisions, and liaising with stakeholders in government and across the value chain to understand how various factors impact growers, identify potential challenges, and facilitate solutions.
SATI is recruiting for a Manager: Commercial Industry Affairs. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who can use data and insights to generate foresight that can inform commercial strategies. Insights and outcomes generated in this role inform SATIs strategic decisions. The Commercial Affairs Manager will work directly with the CEO and other portfolio managers. The incumbent will represent SATI at various stakeholder levels and build close relationships with producers. The role requires frequent interactions with a range of stakeholders from industry e.g. producers and exporters to government departments and state-owned entities such as Transnet and Eskom, and third-party data providers including BFAP & Frudata.
The incumbent will have the responsibility to analyse commercial insights and data to apply it strategically in the table grape industry environment. Key outcomes in this area include data contextualisation, turning data into intelligence, and identifying trends and risks.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with macro and micro-economic understanding and a solution-driven mindset. Relevant experience includes Agricultural Economics, Business Development and/or Commercial Export Management or similar fields.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead engagements with relevant stakeholders across the table grape value chain (producers; exporters; logistical service providers; government)
- Represent SATI on relevant industry networking events, committees, and meetings
- Manage relevant and real-time industry data, information, and intelligence
- Collect, analyse, interpret, and report farm level economics data (BFAP / Frudata reports etc.)
- Proactively identify and execute opportunities that can add value to the industry
- Work with relevant parties to ensure effective and functional information systems and databases (e.g. AgriHub, e-Certification, Phytclean registration, SPS monitoring, vine census, etc.)
- Professional and effective management of relevant service level agreements
- Professional service delivery to internal portfolios and external stakeholders regarding commercial insights
- Research and report on general market intelligence
- Management of logistical affairs impacting the industry
Requirements:
- Applicable postgraduate qualification (e.g. Agricultural Economics / BCom / BSc Agric / MBA / etc.) and/or applicable work experience
- 8 years relevant experience (e.g. Agricultural Economics, Business Development, Commercial Export Management)
- Broad knowledge / understanding of the agricultural industry
- Industry intelligence / statistical insights knowledge
- Excellent strategic insight & application skills
- Commercial acumen / analytical interpretation ability (draw insights & implement accordingly)
- Proactive planning & forecasting (must be able to apply foresight & scenario planning)
- Learning agility & solution oriented
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- High level MS Excel and other relevant statistical skills
- Negotiation skills
- Presentation skills
