About the Role
A well-established insurance brokerage in Pietermaritzburg is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating and underwriting short-term insurance risks, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and supporting brokers and clients with sound technical advice.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite new and existing business risks
- Determine appropriate terms, conditions and pricing
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Provide technical underwriting support to brokers and internal teams
- Manage renewals, endorsements and policy amendments
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify risk trends
- Maintain strong relationships with brokers, insurers and clients
- Assist with complex or high-value underwriting cases
- Prepare reports and provide insights to management
- Support and guide junior underwriting staff where required
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in short-term insurance underwriting
- Strong knowledge of commercial and/or domestic underwriting
- Relevant insurance qualification (advantageous)
- FAIS compliant (or working towards)
