About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to support the General Manager in overseeing all aspects of hotel operations at our luxury hotel in Plettenberg Bay. This senior leadership role requires strong operational, financial, and people management skills to ensure the hotel delivers an exceptional guest experience while achieving business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the General Manager with day-to-day operations
- Act as GM in their absence, assuming full accountability of the property
- Monitor departmental performance, identify problem areas, and implement solutions to improve profitability
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to staff and HODs
- Resolve guest complaints and ensure effective service recovery
- Support recruitment, selection, and performance management of hotel staff, including disciplinary processes
- Ensure full compliance with SOPs, policies, procedures, and service standards
- Facilitate accurate and timely communication regarding hotel policies and operational directives
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the General Manager or management
Requirements
- Post-matric qualification (Diploma/Degree) essential
- 810 years experience in luxury 4/5 Star hotels, including at least 3 years in a senior management role
- Proven working knowledge of key revenue-generating departments (Rooms, F&B)
- Excellent written, verbal communication and numeracy skills
- High-level English proficiency; second language advantageous
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams of 50+ staff
- Proficiency in Hotel Operating Systems (Opera, Micros, etc.)
- Strong reporting skills and ability to analyse and translate data
- Motivated, enthusiastic, and adaptable with a positive attitude
- Ability to work shifts and have own transport
