About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant/Bookkeeper to support our accounting team in delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial services to US-based clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Bookkeeping & Cashbook Support: Assist with maintaining accurate cashbooks and posting daily transactions. Support bank reconciliations and identify basic errors or mismatches. Import and code bank statement transactions according to guidelines. Handle basic petty cash processing and reconciliations.
- Accounts Payable (Creditors): Capture and accurately code supplier invoices into the accounting system. Assist with supplier statement reconciliations and preparing payment lists.
- Accounts Receivable (Debtors): Prepare and send client invoices and credit notes under supervision. Assist with customer receipt allocations and basic debtor reconciliations. Help track overdue accounts and prepare ageing reports.
- Inventory Support (If Required by Client): Assist with basic stock capturing and setup tasks. Help compile stock reports and perform simple inventory reconciliations under supervision.
- Payroll Assistance: Assist with preparing payroll inputs and supporting payroll processing activities. Help with payroll reconciliations and gathering payroll tax information.
- Journals & Adjustments: Capture recurring journals (e.g., provisions) as instructed. Prepare simple correcting journals for review by senior staff.
- General Accounting Support: Support the preparation of monthly management reports. Assist senior accountants with intercompany transaction tracking and reconciliations. Maintain asset registers and help record acquisitions and disposals. Assist with preparing audit or tax support schedules.
- Administrative & Team Support: Respond to basic internal and external accounting queries. Complete timesheets and assist in generating routine reports. Participate in training and development activities as required.
Requirements
- Education & Experience: Diploma or degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related field (or currently studying toward one).
- 35 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred (internships accepted).
- Matric / Grade 12 required.
- Technical Skills: Working knowledge of accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or similar (advantageous). Proficient in Excel (basic to intermediate level). Comfortable using Outlook and cloud-based systems.
