Pretoria: Quality Controller (Engineering)

This role is for a client operating in the armoured industry with a focus on optoelectronics . The company has a strong international presence with its head office in Saudi Arabia and a key manufacturing facility in Centurion. They specialize in producing high-precision optical and electronic components critical to advanced armoured systems, where quality and reliability are paramount. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Quality Controller (QC) with at least 3 years of hands-on experience in optoelectronics or precision manufacturing , ideally within a high-tech or defense-related environment. Formal qualifications are not essential; however, demonstrated practical expertise and the ability to work independently and unsupervised are vital for success. Key Responsibilities Conduct meticulous inspections and tests on optical and electronic components throughout production stages. Employ non-contact inspection techniques such as laser scanning, 3D surface topography, and interferometry to ensure micron-level precision. Detect, document, and report defects including surface imperfections and dimensional inaccuracies. Verify product compliance with strict technical specifications and relevant standards (ISO 9001, RoHS, IPC-A-610). Monitor production quality data in real-time to identify deviations and recommend corrective actions. Prepare detailed quality reports and maintain documentation for internal and client use. Uphold adherence to industry and company quality control protocols. Operate independently, managing QC processes unsupervised while escalating issues as necessary. Tools & Techniques Precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems Laser scanning and interferometry for 3D surface metrology Opto-digital microscopy and thermal imaging systems Digital QC software platforms for data analysis and reporting Minimum Experience & Skills Minimum 3 years in a QC role within optoelectronics, electronics manufacturing, or a related high-precision field Proficient with non-contact inspection and digital measurement technologies Knowledgeable of quality standards such as ISO 9001, RoHS, and IPC-A-610 Comfortable working with micron-level tolerances and complex assemblies Proven ability to work unsupervised , with strong initiative and decision-making skills Experience documenting quality findings and communicating across teams Key Attributes Strong attention to detail and quality focus Analytical and problem-solving capabilities Self-motivated, reliable, and able to manage time effectively Effective communicator with clear reporting skills Adaptable to a fast-paced, technology-driven defense manufacturing environment
