Sales Manager OPEN TO ALL SUITABLE CANDIDATES Department: Sales & Business Development Reporting to: General Manager / Managing Director Industry: Engineering & Manufacturing Location: Randburg Employment Type: Permanent – Full Time . REMUNERATION • Basic salary (market-related based on experience). /- R40000 to R70000 • Car allowance / company vehicle. • Fuel card, tools of trade (laptop, phone). • Commission / performance bonus. • Pension, medical aid, and other company benefits. 1. ROLE PURPOSE The Sales Manager is responsible for leading, coaching, and developing a diverse team of internal and external sales professionals to drive revenue growth, expand market share, and strengthen customer relationships within the engineering and manufacturing sectors. The role requires strong technical acumen, commercial leadership, and the ability to manage complex B2B sales cycles involving engineered products, solutions, and high-value projects. 2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 2.1 Sales Leadership & Team Management • Lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team of sales representatives, key account managers, internal sales coordinators, and technical sales engineers. • Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and skills development plans. • Create a positive, accountable, high-performance sales culture. • Recruit, onboard, and train new sales staff . 2.2 Sales Strategy & Planning • Develop and implement annual sales strategies aligned with company targets and operational capabilities. • Define sales KPIs, territory allocations, and product/market segments. • Conduct market research to identify new opportunities, industry trends, and emerging technologies. • Prepare accurate sales forecasts, reports, and market intelligence dashboards. 2.3 Customer Relationship Management • Build and maintain strong relationships with key industrial clients, OEMs, contractors, consulting engineers, distributors, and EPC companies. • Drive customer satisfaction through consistent follow-up, technical support, and value added service. • Resolve escalated customer issues and ensure smooth handling by internal sales and service teams. 2.4 Technical & Product Knowledge • Understand engineering drawings, production processes, and manufactured components (mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical). • Present technical solutions to clients, including product demonstrations and site visits. • Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and quality departments to ensure accurate costing, feasibility, and delivery timelines. • Support the creation of proposals, quotations, and engineered solutions. 2.5 Business Development • Identify and develop new business opportunities in target industries (manufacturing, mining, energy, automotive, food & beverage, utilities, OEMs, engineering firms). • Grow the company’s footprint within existing accounts through cross-selling and solution-based selling. • Represent the company at industry events, exhibitions, trade shows, and client workshops. 2.6 Operational & Administrative Management • Oversee sales budgets, pricing strategies, discount structures, and profitability. • Ensure compliance with internal policies, CRM utilization, sales administration, and reporting standards. • Collaborate with Finance on credit control, payment terms, and contract negotiations. • Maintain accurate records of leads, quotations, pipelines, and orders. 3. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 3.1 Qualifications • National Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related). • Business Management / Sales Management qualification advantageous. • Valid driver’s licence. 3.2 Experience • Minimum 5–10 years sales experience in an engineering, manufacturing, or technical environment. • At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or management role. • Proven success in managing medium-to-long sales cycles involving engineered or customized products. • Experience working with diverse customers and multicultural sales teams. • Familiarity with CRM systems, tender processes, and technical quoting. 4. CORE COMPETENCIES Technical Competencies • Strong understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes. • Ability to read technical drawings and interpret specifications. • Experience in solution selling and technical product presentations. Managerial Competencies • Strong leadership and coaching ability. • Data-driven decision making and analytical thinking. • Performance management, motivation, and team development. Commercial Competencies • Strong negotiation skills with ability to close complex deals. • Excellent financial awareness—pricing, margins, forecasting, and budgeting. • Customer-centric with strong relationship-building capabilities. Soft Skills • Strong communication (verbal, written, presentation). • High emotional intelligence (EQ) and multicultural sensitivity. • Strategic thinker with high adaptability. • Resilient under pressure, deadline-driven, and highly organised. 5. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs) • Achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets. • Growth of new business vs existing account expansion. • Profitability and margin improvement. • Sales pipeline accuracy and CRM usage compliance. • Customer satisfaction scores and retention. • Team performance and staff development metrics. • Reduction in sales cycle times and improved conversion rates. 6. WORKING CONDITIONS • Office-based with frequent travel to customer sites, factories, and project locations. • Regular interaction with production, engineering, stores, finance, and senior management. • May involve travel between provinces and occasional cross-border travel depending on region.
