Lodge-Based Role: Assistant General Manager – Luxury Boutique Safari Lodge (Greater Hoedspruit) Location: Greater Kruger, Limpopo Province Salary: R18,000 per month (Negotiable, DOE) Accommodation: Live-in Start Date: As soon as possible Position Overview A luxury boutique safari lodge in the Greater Kruger area is seeking a hands-on and service-driven Assistant General Manager to support the General Manager in overseeing all operational, guest experience, and administrative aspects of the lodge. This is a dynamic, leadership-focused role suited to a professional with proven experience in high-end hospitality operations who thrives in a close-knit, fast-paced lodge environment. Key Responsibilities Guest Experience & Service Excellence Oversee the full guest journey from arrival to departure, ensuring consistent five-star service standards. Manage VIP stays, special requests, and guest feedback to ensure memorable, seamless experiences. Ensure all departments — including F&B, housekeeping, front office, and activities — maintain high levels of guest satisfaction. Coordinate with reservations for accurate guest communication and activity planning. Operational Oversight Support the GM in the daily running of all lodge departments (Housekeeping, Maintenance, Laundry, Food & Beverage, and Front Office). Lead daily handovers and management meetings to align operations. Monitor adherence to lodge SOPs, recommending improvements where needed. Ensure hygiene, presentation, and maintenance standards are consistently upheld. Financial & Administrative Support Assist with budget tracking, cost control, and financial reporting. Oversee petty cash and manage reconciliations while on duty. Support stock management, supplier coordination, and procurement systems. Identify opportunities for upselling, cross-selling, and operational efficiency. Team Leadership & Development Lead, motivate, and train departmental teams to deliver consistent, high-quality service. Oversee scheduling, grooming standards, and professional presentation of staff. Conduct counselling and manage minor disciplinary processes in the absence of the GM. Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work culture. Health, Safety & Compliance Maintain compliance with health, safety, and labour regulations. Oversee readiness for emergencies and ensure all staff understand response procedures. Monitor environmental sustainability and lodge conservation practices. Maintenance & Infrastructure Oversight Work with the maintenance team to ensure proactive upkeep of lodge infrastructure, gardens, and pools. Address and log urgent maintenance issues promptly. Maintain communication between departments for operational support. Minimum Requirements Diploma or degree in Hospitality Management (or relevant field). 5 years’ experience in luxury lodge or boutique hospitality management (Assistant GM or similar level). Strong knowledge of lodge operations including F&B, Housekeeping, and Front Office. Financial acumen and proven ability to manage budgets and costs. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Computer literate (MS Office, PMS & POS systems such as ResRequest, Semper, or PanStrat). Fluent in English (Afrikaans or other local language advantageous). Valid driver’s licence; flexible and willing to work lodge-based shifts, weekends, and public holidays. Stable employment history is essential. Core Competencies Strategic and operational thinker with attention to detail. Calm under pressure, solution-oriented, and organised. Strong leadership presence with a collaborative mindset. Passion for hospitality, nature, and people. Excellent interpersonal and cultural sensitivity skills.
