Job Description
We are seeking a loving, kind, patient and dependable facilitator to walk alongside a very special 4-year-old boy and his family. The facilitator will become part of the caring circle of support that helps him feel safe, secure, and confident in his world. The role will entail attending school with him, gently guiding him through his day, helping reduce his anxieties, and supporting his growth and learning. The facilitator will be part of a warm, multi-disciplinary team and will share feedback with his parents and team members to help him thrive. The facilitator will also be required to care for him after school with fun activities at home or go on outings.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with neurodivergent children. This is not just a job its a chance to make a lasting difference in the life of a child who learns differently and to be a steady, loving presence for him and his family.
Main Purpose of the job:
To offer personalised daily guidance and support, ensuring he receives tailored learning opportunities that caters to his specific and unique needs. A special interest and passion in neurodiversity and being a secure, long-term source of support are of the utmost importance.
Job Objectives
- Becoming a trusted member of his support team, using S.P.E.L.L principles to guide him.
- Providing caring companionship and emotional support and scaffolding to help him regulate and feel safe.
- Having a passion for children who learn differently, and able to find joy in play, discovery, and celebrating small victories.
- Being energetic and creative, able to think outside the box, move, play, and bring fun into learning.
- Acting as a nurturing caregiver who is comfortable assisting with everyday needs such as feeding, nappy changes, and supporting potty training when ready.
- To be a good communicator who can share daily feedback and fill in simple goal sheets.Being a supportive member of a multi-disciplinary team who works alongside therapists, teachers, and parents with an open and teachable attitude
- To be reliable and organised, able to drive him safely to school, appointments and outings.
Working hours:
Monday to Friday: 07h30-15h30
Requirements
General Requirements:
A valid drivers license and reliable car Essential.
Previous experience supporting young neurodiverse children Desirable.
Experience as a facilitator for neurodiverse children Desirable.
A heart for long-term commitment (preferably 2 years) Essential
Job-Related work experience:
Previous experience in a role supporting neurodivergent children – Essential.
Previous experience in teaching – Desirable
Familiarity with special education strategies, curriculum adaptation, and life skills training.
Job-Related Knowledge
- Familiarity and knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) – Essential.
- Familiarity with low arousal, child-led, neuro-affirming approach – Essential.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to building a trusting, supportive relationship with the child.
- Flexible and adaptable, able to adjust to the childs needs and familys schedule.
Relevant certifications or qualifications in education, special education, psychology, or related fields Desirable.
Job-Related Skills:
- Ability to minimise stress and anxiety for both children by utilising a low arousal approach – Essential.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with the family and other support systems – Essential
- Organisational skills, i.e., ability to implement structure, strong time management imperative – Essential.
- Social, play and life skills Essential.
- Relationship building skills Essential.
