Job Description
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in agronomy or agricultural research, with a focus on Banana crop management.
- Proven expertise in crop husbandry, chemical and fertilizer applications, replant rotation, seedings, nursery management, and disease control.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret soil, plant, and environmental data to inform decision-making.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with a track record of successfully leading agronomic projects or teams.
- Proficiency in agricultural software and technology tools for data analysis and farm management.
- Commitment to sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship.
- Flexibility to travel to different farm locations and work extended hours during peak seasons.
- Certification as a Professional Agronomist (CPAg) or Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) is a plus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMTED
- Develop and implement agronomic strategies to maximize crop yield and quality.
- Provide expert guidance on crop husbandry practices, including planting, irrigation, and banana harvesting techniques.
- Conduct soil analyses and make recommendations for fertilizer applications to optimize nutrient uptake and soil health.
- Manage replant rotation schedules to minimize soil depletion and maximize long-term productivity.
- Oversee seedings and nursery operations, ensuring the timely and efficient propagation of plant material.
- Implement integrated pest management strategies to control diseases, pests, and weeds effectively.
- Monitor crop health and diagnose issues, providing timely interventions and solutions.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, research advancements, and best practices in agronomy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including farmers, researchers, and agricultural engineers, to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Train and mentor junior agronomists and field technicians, fostering a culture of learning and development within the team.
