Job Description
You will be required to lead the ZTL department in implementing zero waste strategic goals at designated sites and ensure ongoing compliance thereto. Responsible for identifying and driving waste diversion opportunities in the region and ensure implementation at designated sites. Ensure that waste diversion targets are achieved, and provide a report to the Sustainability Manager, including corrective action taken. You will be working closely with the Sustainability Manager, Operations Manager, IT Manager & Data department.
Responsibilities
Zero waste operational management- Oversee, coach and mentor all staff reporting to you
- Manage the performance of waste audit teams at sites
- Collate and interpret the statistics of zero waste performance at each site and ensure corrective action is taken
- Periodic review of the effectiveness of our client’s specific environmental policies, procedures, and systems (financial benefit, least environmental damage and best practicable environmental option)
- Ensure daily performance measurement tools are correctly used by zero waste team
- Prepare reports and deal with matters arising around these
- Oversee and provide guidance to zero waste staff at client sites
- Ensure that all staffing levels for the achievement of zero waste are adequately trained and capable of performing to the required operational standard
- Engage with Operations Manager (or the Contract Manager to whom the Operations Manager may delegate such function), to address and ensure correction of on-site sorting activities that may be required by the commercial sorting staff
- Visit sites bi-weekly, to manage and ensure the correct implementation of zero waste procedures at each site, as contained within the service level agreement of each client, is implemented and maintained
Client relations
- Strategically manage client relationships
- Ensure customer satisfaction by addressing waste diversion challenges
- Meet with clients monthly to address previous and new issues, providing feedback on improvements, reporting aspects of interest (meeting minutes required)
- Provide written communication / feedback regarding client relationships to the Sustainability Manager and the Operations Manager
Personnel management
- Ensure that all zero waste staff are adequately trained and competent, as per company policy and procedures
Administrational responsibilities
- Ensure that all reports are provided in accordance with the clients standard operating procedures, to the extent that they refer to the measurement of waste diversion at site
SHEQ responsibilities
- Ensure that all processes for the achievement of waste diversion at a clients’ site are compliant with environmental legislation
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12, tertiary qualification is advantageous
- At least 4 years’ experience in the waste management or recycling industry with management experience (direct or indirect management)
- Good understanding of the waste Act and environmental compliances therewith
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum of 7 years’ working experience
