Roles and Responsibilities Location: George, Western Cape Role: Permanent Salary: Market Related To be discussed based on skills and experience Key Responsibilities Plan, design, and manage sewer infrastructure projects, including gravity sewer network, rising mains and associated infrastructure. Lead the technical review and approval of engineering designs and feasibility studies for sewer projects. Oversee the implementation of capital works programs and maintenance strategies for municipal sewer infrastructure. Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., planning, finance) and external stakeholders (e.g., consultants, contractors, government agencies). Conduct modeling and network analysis to optimize system performance and identify future needs. Prepare technical reports, project proposals, procurement documents, and council submissions. Ensure compliance with local, provincial/state, and national water regulations, safety standards, and engineering codes. Experience with the NWA and NEMA will be beneficial. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technologists. Conduct field inspections, troubleshoot operational issues, and support commissioning of new infrastructure. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (a relevant Post graduate degree is advantageous). Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineering Council of South Africa. Minimum 5 years of experience in civil engineering, with a strong focus on water distribution and bulk supply systems. Experience working in or with municipalities or water utilities on infrastructure development and service delivery. Strong understanding of the modeling software, preferably iDAS and AutoCAD Civil 3D. Demonstrated project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor supervision. Core Competencies Technical expertise in civil engineering and infrastructure design. Strong project management and contract administration abilities. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Knowledge of municipal sector regulations and service delivery frameworks. Work Environment Office-based with regular field work and site visits. Occasional travel to project sites and municipal locations. Valid drivers license required.
