About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Guide to join our team at 5* Game Lodge in Thabazimbi. As the lead guide, you will be responsible for maintaining the overall operation and administration of the guides and safari department, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, safety, and excellent staff relations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and train all Field Guide functions according to standards
- Conduct guest introductory and safety orientations, guided game drives, and interpretive bush walks
- Ensure efficient allocation for all game drives, back-up drives, and stand-by duties
- Maintain valid departmental licenses and ensure safe weapon handling and proficiency
- Chair and record departmental meetings and attend other meetings as required
- Assist in managing lodge social media platforms
- Coordinate effective incident management in emergency or evacuation situations
- Mentor, train, develop, motivate, and guide the team towards achieving required/higher qualifications
- Implement training and mentorship plans and facilitate the use of internal and external trainers
- Provide professional man-management and encouragement to subordinates
- Organize regular Head Guides forums and Mentorship Workshops
- Carry out regular performance appraisals and ensure agreed action plans are being implemented
- Collaborate with Reserve Conservation Team to support conservation initiatives
Requirements
- Minimum FGASA Level 2 and Trails Guide (Essential)
- ARH and Rifle Proficiency
- First Aid Level 2
- Drivers License and Pr-DP
- Previous experience as Assistant Head Guide or Head Guide
- Sound knowledge of planning, budgeting, and departmental administration
